A Queensland police officer has been choked, almost becoming unconscious in a vicious attack at Mitchelton.

A group of five men and women allegedly set upon the female senior constable, then turned on two of her colleagues as they tried to stop the brutal assault in Osborne Street just before midnight.

9News understands the group was kicked out of a nearby pub and started fighting, but when officers tried to intervene, a man allegedly grabbed the senior constable by the neck.

“The police woman was viciously attacked by a large male. And in her attempt to escape, he has bitten her,” Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers said.

“She's a mother of three with an 11-month-old and now she has to undergo the process of a disease test. That is absolutely unacceptable.”

All three of the officers were taken to St Andrews Hospital for treatment with non-life threatening injuries.
