Fire emergency warning issued for Mundaring residents

A bushfire emergency warning has been issued for several townships north east of Perth.

Residents in The Lakes, Beechina, Copley, Wottating, Wooroloo, and the shires of Mundaring and Northam are in danger and must act immediately according to WA Department of Fire an Emergency.

The fire, which has burnt through almost 300 hectares of land, began just after 1pm today (local time) and around 100 firefighters and volunteer emergency services personnel are on scene.


People in the area bound by Great Southern Highway, Great Eastern Highway and Wariin Road are urged to evacuate if safe to do so.

It is understood the fire started at the intersection of Horton Road and Great Southern highway in The Lakes.

Anyone choosing to stay and protect their homes is warned not to rely on mains as water pressure may be affected.

Anyone who is not at home is also advised to stay clear of the affected areas.
